Kevin Martin
Thoughts so far today, Kevin Martin is a very good player on a very bad team, I personally think it’s another great Morey move (even if we lose Carl).
Interesting quote i found (previous to this trade) was this from ESPN writer Bill Simmons in his Column "The Trade Value List: No. 40 to No.1" said that Kevin on a good team who "protected him defensively" could have a career like Reggie Miller and/or Rip Hamilton.
Just a thought, the Rockets are pretty good at defense, and we need a scorer? So what is wrong with the deal?
Most fans are upset about losing Landry in the deal. Two reasons why Morey got this right.
1) Carl Landry will need a contract next year, and I mean an actual one he is making 3,000,000 dollars this year and with a possible six man of the year award coming you'd be looking at a legitimate six man salary, here are some examples of great sixth men, Jason Terry, current contract is 9.75 million for this year, J.R. Smith 6+ million contract, Lamar Odom makes 7+ million, etc. Thus the contract the Rockets would be forced into this off-season would be 6-9 million, and probably 4-5 years. I'm going to say this, he's not worth it.
2) Kevin is a legitimate number 1 scorer, in Sacramento he's averaging 20 points a game with a ball hog of a Point Guard in Tyreke Evan's, he's been in an Adelman like system his whole career, he's a pure shooter (ala Reggie Miller, he even kind of looks like Reggie). He's 27 years old, 3 years left on his contract, Remember we have to resign Yao this or next year.
